What Is The Polymerist?
I am writing to try and figure out what it means to be a polymer chemist in the 21st century and how polymer chemistry and chemistry in general enable and facilitate our modern lives.
Modern life is dependent on the advances that chemistry has provided, but many of us also know that doing business as usual is unsustainable. Making chemistry suit our needs is relatively easy to do in the lab, but it’s difficult to achieve at scale.
I’m not sure the people who run the chemical industry know 100% why things happen the way they do, but I’m here to try and figure it out, explain what I think is happening, and provide some insights on how to be better.
I am putting out the product that I would personally spend $50/year to get and something that I wish has existed since I was an undergraduate.
This newsletter if for everyone. I’m writing for both myself and industry outsiders. If something is confusing let me know. All are welcome.
A Bit About Me
I’ve been a professional chemist since I finished my undergraduate back in 2009 during the great recession and I got to work with a BS in chemistry for a medical device start-up. I realized that the people with PhDs didn’t know that much more than me so I went and got one. I started working with a PhD right after my thesis defense in 2016.
For the first 1000 of the email subscribers you had the chance to figure out who I was and connect with me on a personal level via LinkedIn. As the newsletter grows I’m going to step behind a curtain a bit more just to protect my own identity a bit more in the coming weeks.
