An attempt to understand what is going on in the world of chemicals from the view of a polymer chemist

Welcome to Polymerist by me, Anthony Maiorana. I am a professional/practicing polymer chemist who tries to stay current on the chemical industry and this newsletter will be a way for me to expand on things I read a broader audience. Staying current on industrial chemistry with a focus on the polymer/plastics world is something I do on a regular basis and this is a way for me to share my thoughts on what is happening with hopefully the broader chemical industry community and those who want to learn more about it.

I am also doing this as an ultimate hedge against the inherent volatility of the chemical industry where mergers and acquisitions happen on a weekly basis as companies are spun out, taken public, taken private, merged, and try to become more efficient. If I can develop a following on Substack, perhaps I can monetize it eventually and even if I cannot at least I’ve increased my knowledge and hopefully my readers knowledge about the world of chemistry and why it is still one of the most important industries in the world.

My goal is to do this weekly with a few focus areas such as new technologies (catalysts, new molecules, new polymers, etc), mergers and acquisitions, and new applications of existing materials.
