The Stuff I Wrote - I outlined what I termed The Island Problem back on Tuesday and on Friday I came out with the issue on Green Chemistry and Circular Plastics. The Island Problem is really about how do remote places deal with their recycables and in particular those pesky #5 yogurt cups? The Green Chemistry and Circular Plastics issue this month focused on how more bio-based chemicals are coming online including solvents, but at the same time there is new legislation being introduced that are intended to curb the use of plastics and can even classify them as toxic waste. Can these two things co-exist in a good way or is there room for nuance?
What I’m Reading - I really enjoyed Ava’s post this week entitled commitment/accountability in her newsletter bookbear express and it was about what I view as the endless choice paradox. How long do we spend trying to figure out what to watch on Netflix? How many times can I listen to my friend’s try and find commitment in romantic relationships when there are apps that could put them with a potentially better person? Should you stay at your job right now or potentially go on LinkedIn or Indeed and find the job of your dreams?
What I’m Listening To - I’ve been listening to the songs Because I’m Me by The Avalanches a lot his week and Come Meh Way by Sudan Archives. Both songs seem to possess something familiar while also feeling fresh and new.
What I’m Watching - Season 12 of Doctor Who is what I am currently watching when not watching Drive To Survive with my wife. I watched quite a bit of Doctor Who while in graduate school on weekends when I would monopolize on the fact that no one was there and I would use all of the instruments. I wasn’t a huge fan of Peter Capaldi as The Doctor and I think Jodie Whittaker brings back a whimsical nature that Matt Smith brought to the character.
