I’ll start this issue of the newsletter off with one of my favorite clips from a fictionalized account of the start of the great recession, which has influenced my life greatly since I graduated college in 2009. You don’t have to watch it, but basically it’s about getting laid off from a place like Goldman Sachs.
I am here to tell you that there is life after Goldman Sachs and other companies who no longer require your services or expertise. Some things happen for a reason and you move on to the next exercise in life of exploring and living a new existence and learning from the past experiences
Well said, often a new CEO of a chemical company gets hired and then people get laid off in a restructuring initiative that is a short term boost to corporate earnings. Definitely need to be prepared for this.
Job security no longer exist and most security today involves tight power politics in every corporation. You are better on your own if you have the skill sets to network and consult or form a kabal of like minded trustworthy individuals. With the rapid change in our science and business sectors there are many new opportunities for those with the grit to stay the course. Its not about your educational background Many PhD graduates believe they are owed a position of authority and management without doing the hard work. There are no short cuts unless you have political or family connections.
