Hey there,
This is the Sunday morning catch-up with what happened in the previous week. I know people are busy during the week, but my original intent was to write something that you could read before you start your day, perhaps while you were checking your email and drinking coffee. For those of you who were too busy last week here are the highlights:
Last Week In The Polymerist
Tuesday - Carbon Capture—Is it legit?
This was a topic that was submitted by a reader. I knew a bit about carbon capture and a bit about small molecule and methane activation and then I realized that they are somewhat related so I wrote this story. To me it feels topical, but also a deeper dive past the headline of This company is doing carbon capture and they have investment from XYZ funds and hope to do ABC with their new venture that will be built in 5 years. Carbon capture and the activation of this carbon into chemicals I think is the future where we are heading. We just need some chemists that are well funded to crack the problem.
Thursday - AAAS Policy Fellowship Mixer
I attended a Zoom mixer on Wednesday night and these were my notes of what it is like to be a AAAS Science and Technology Fellow. Pretty interesting concept, but it seems like something you want to do at the start of your career or at the end. Definitely not the middle.
Friday - Circular Polymers and Green Chemistry
My post on what has been going on the last few weeks around circular polymers and green chemistry. I am attempting more of a essay style here with minimal headings. I’m combining a lot of different references to try and provide context and give more of my opinion.
Career Focused
I’ve written about How To Get A Job As A Chemist and about Mentorship in Science. I am also trying to connect recruiters and people looking for jobs with a discussion board.
I’ve got a few more things in the works that I will release to the newsletter in the coming weeks/months such as some stories with people from the industry on how they got to where they are now.
