Hey there,
This is the Sunday morning catch-up with what happened in the previous week. I know people are busy during the week, but my original intent was to write something that you could read before you start your day, perhaps while you were checking your email and drinking coffee.
Last Week In The Polymerist
Tuesday- Chemical Recycling of PET - Is Now The Time It Will Work?
Chemical recycling of plastics is all over the world right now and everyone is racing to install capacity and get their plants up and running. But did you know that Eastman and DuPont were doing chemical recycling of polyethylene terephthalate in the 1990s? Neither did I till a chemist pointed it out to me on Twitter. This is where I try to answer the question on if Eastman and serious about their methanolysis plant.
Friday - Specialty Polymers- CASE and Force Majeures
The specialty polymers industry encompasses a lot of different end markets with the big ones being coatings, adhesives, sealants, and elastomers or CASE. I also covered some recent force majeures happening in the south due to the extreme cold weather happening. I view climate change as a reality and more frequent changes to normal climate will become the new normal so we need to be prepared.
Career Focused
I’ve written about How To Get A Job As A Chemist, about Mentorship in Science, and what it might be like to be a AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellow. I am also trying to connect recruiters and people looking for jobs with a discussion board.
I’ve got an interview that I will release to the newsletter in the coming weeks on two career scientists on how they got to where they are and what advice they would give to their themselves early in their career. Any specific topics you want me to cover about chemistry careers? Let me know.
